Job Description
(New YorkMetro) Client is a global insurance organization that is seeking an Assistant Director of Technical Accounting. Compensation is open but gravitating to the $160,000 range on the fixed plus a bonus on top of this. 

Although Insurance industry experience is preferred, consideration will be given to candidates outside of insurance who have demonstrated Technical Accounting experience in either a public or private setting.  Candidates directly out of public will work well for this.  CPA is required. 

The role is open due to a promotion. This is policy implementation, not technical policy interpretation role.  As a result, the role is not focused so much on reading and interpreting FASB’s (which is mainly done at the parent company level) but rather helping regional accounting officers understand how the FASB’s are affecting their day-to-day accounting. The role is a high profile position as a result of the interaction with regional accounting officers. 



Primary Responsibilities:
 

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with US GAAP  (as well as IFRS in the near future)  and providing accounting advice and support to over two hundred Reporting Offices in numerous countries and Regional Finance Leaders.
  • Assist in implementation of accounting policies and guidance at Corporate and Reporting Offices.
  • Writing accounting policy memorandum.
  • Reviewing accounting for specific transactions and items performed at Corporate and Reporting Offices for appropriateness.
  • Ensuring all accounting inquiries are addressed in a timely manner and are appropriately documented and communicated.
  • Assist in providing training sessions on various accounting issues.
  • Working closely with Reporting and Regional Offices and various other functions including Corporate Consolidation, Investment Accounting, Treasury, Actuarial, Reinsurance, and FP&A as well as internal and external auditors on accounting related issues.
  • Remaining current on emerging accounting issues and educating Reporting and Regional Offices on applicable developments.
               
Qualifications:
The candidate must have extensive experience working on technical accounting issues and being able to deliver logical solutions to those issues.  Other qualifications for this position include:
 

  • 7 to 15 years of experience in accounting with a strong preference for a technical accounting role.
  • Possess a CPA, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience in the Insurance Industry preferred.
  • Experience in working for an  international organization.
  • Good understanding of accounting and business processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Able to influence people and arrive at good solutions in a collaborative and constructive manner.
