Job Description
(New York)  – Our client is an international P&C insurer.  They seek a divisional Chief Accounting Officer.  The position will have a direct reporting line to the CFO of the division along with a dotted line to the Chief Accounting Officer of the parent company.

The position will function at the divisional level having oversight of all accounting issues related to financial reporting performed in accordance with US GAAP and Statutory Standards.

As a result, the successful candidate will have a strong background in financial and regulatory reporting from (ideally) a P&C environment.  The successful candidate will also be a driver of change, a visionary and natural leader, but will maintain an ability to be a “hands-on” individual contributor.

More specifically, responsibilities will be focused on (but not limited to):

  • Management and control of all accounting, consolidations, reporting, related controls and analysis.  All of the aforementioned to follow guidelines set by the SEC, NAIC, BMA; be in accordance with US GAAP; and be in compliance with the time frames set by the regulatory bodies and parent company.
  • Regulatory oversight including monitoring and improving the existing internal control structure surrounding the financial reporting function.
  • Lead contact with external auditor for all financial reporting (and related controls) items.
  • Divisional responsibility for all process, organizational, structural and system improvements made to the financial reporting function.
  • Participation in short-term and long-term strategic planning in conjunction with the other areas of the finance organization.

Candidates should have experience performing the responsibilities outlined above.  It’s worth emphasizing again that candidates should have:
  • Experience with coordinating a complex reporting function involving multinational entities including the management and motivation of direct reports, indirect reports and external consultants.
  • Designing, implementing and improving the reporting process and related systems.  A willingness to be a “hands on” contributor in a manual environment.
  • Previous public accounting experience is strongly preferred.  CPA license a must as is financial reporting experience in a corporate environment.
