Job Description
(North Carolina)  Client is well known Financial Services and Insurance Company.  Client is seeking a Vice President of Capital Management.  Compensation is open but gravitating to the $200,000 range plus short term comp and long term incentive. All in, the total compensation is expected to be in the $250,00+ range.

Vice President, Capital Management

Responsible for the capital and liquidity management of Client and each of its subsidiaries, including forecasting, performing scenario analysis, determining alternatives to improve position, and executing projects to improve the capital structure.  With over $1.8 Billion in capital as of 2010, this role reports to the SVP of Financial Administration who reports to the EVP, Treasurer and CFO.
 
Responsibilities include:
 
Manage the process to determine the capital and liquidity position and needs of Client and each of its subsidiaries. Forecast the long term position under base and stress scenarios, coordinating with other departments on inputs and assumptions, including operating groups for business plans, Financial Planning and Analysis for P&L forecast, Accounting for actual positions and balance sheet implications,  and Actuarial for “ultimate” projections.
 
Determine potential weaknesses and strengths in meeting regulatory tests, maintaining prudent capital levels, ability to grow business, ability to pay claims, and robustness of position for stakeholders including Client’s Parent, rating agencies and counterparties including Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, and provide solutions.
 
Determine and maintain capital plan to achieve optimal capital structure as an independent entity with investment grade ratings for its business. Research constraints and opportunities of capital structures with appropriate parties, including regulatory statutes, reinsurance restrictions, and accounting implications. Update regularly as needs and projections change.
 
Manage projects from development to execution, both internal to Client and in conjunction with Client’s Parent and external parties, to improve the capital position, including reinsurance structures, liquidity facilities, dividends and capital infusions, and other capital structures.
 
Evaluate financial ROEs and sensitivity, given Actuarial projections of economic ROEs on existing and new business. Determine required mix of business to achieve target financial ROEs and impact from deviations on capital allocation.
 
Manage financial analyst position to efficiently and effectively provide capital modeling for regular reporting, scenario analyses and ad hoc needs.
 
 
10-15 years in a highly visible financial management role is what is needed here coupled with experience dealing with executive management and complex intercompany financial structures. Strong analytical and communication skills are also required.  Experience in capital management for an insurance company is preferred. CPA highly preferred.
